Getting the furniture right for your home is like winning a lottery. It is a very big deal. It requires a careful process of finding the right pieces for each room at the best price. However, it is easier said than done. When buying furniture many shoppers feel overwhelmed with the choices and make mistakes that they regret later. Here are 5 furniture mistakes to avoid:

1. Buying Furniture That Doesn’t Fit :- When in the showroom, it is natural to like the best furniture piece available in your budget. But nothing is worse than buying the sofa you love only to find it too big for your living room. Always measure the space in which the furniture is to be placed, along with the entryways through which the furniture piece will have to move. Do your homework beforehand to save yourself from making a mistake that you will regret later.

2. Falling for Sales Gimmicks :- We all love sales, especially when it is given on something big like the home furniture. Sales and clearance events are quite common in the furniture industry and we see people falling for it all the time. Prices are inflated and then a discount is offered to make you feel like you are getting a really good deal. Shopkeepers emphasise on how the ‘sale period’ is limited forcing you to make a hasty decision. Many times customers end up buying trash pieces paying much more than their worth. Beware of lucrative sales gimmicks. If something sound too good to be true, it probably isn’t.

3. Choosing Style Over Comfort :– We all love to follow the latest trends and style. While there is nothing wrong in choosing a stylish piece of furniture, ignoring the comfort quotient is wrong. Furniture stays with you for several years which means comfort and functionality are extremely important. Therefore, you must select furniture that stays trendy and appealing for several years to come instead of a fad that goes away.

4. Focusing Only on Budget :– Budget is important and we are no way asking you to ignore it but making the price as the only deciding factor for your furniture is clearly wrong. Furniture is an investment that you want to last for 10 years at least. Buying cheap furniture that wears out in few seasons is not what you would like. A good way is to buy ‘fewer’ pieces of ‘better’ quality. And adding on pieces as and when budget permits. This way, you will be having good quality furniture without falling into the trap of financing or loans.

5. Forgetting About Existing Furniture :- If you already own some furniture, it is important to check the compatibility of the new furniture with the existing ones. Impulse buying of something attractive only to find it completely out of place in your home is clearly a mistake you should avoid. Also be aware of the furniture colour and its compatibility with your interiors. Furniture colour may look different in your home as compared to the store mainly due to the lighting used by them. Be sure you pay attention to your home, décor, lighting and existing furniture before buying new ones.
